John Murrel is an oil painter with many years’ experience as a plein air painter. Finding sites, obtaining permission, working out compositions, observing how the light effects the scene and the painting process itself is an enjoyable challenge for a Plein Air painter. As a child he spent time on his grandparents farm in Lake Leelanau, which is a strong influence for his current work of barns, silos and outbuildings. John is a member of the Saline Painters Guild and the Great Lakes Plein Air Painters Association. Before the pandemic he was a member of a life drawing group and an instructor with ArtBreak Studio. He has a Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of Michigan and a Master of Arts with a concentration in painting from Eastern Michigan University.
