Brant has lived in Iowa and Ohio and currently lives in Detroit, MI. He has been painting first in acrylics and then in oils for about 25 years or so, with a focus on plein air painting and landscape painting in the studio. He is represented by galleries in Michigan and Wisconsin, participates in several Michigan exhibits and paint-outs every year and has won numerous awards, including best of show at the 2019 Fresh! Plein Air Paint-out in Milford.
